Anyone wishing to dispose of expired recreational marine flares can do so from August 1st to 8th, 2009 at any Ontario Provincial Police detachment. The OPP will then turn the expired flares into Transport Canada's Office of Boating Safety for transport to a certified disposal site. Marine flares should not be disposed in regular landfills due to their dangerous material. Visit www.opp.ca for a list of drop off points, and Transport Canada's boating safety website for a list of vessel safety equipment requirements including recreational flares.
